Obligatory Finals Week Post aka Thing I’m Looking Forward to!

  1. Being done with finals.
  2. Watching the Warriors kick butt.
  3. Watching the Giants kick Dodger butt.
  4. Going to LA this weekend 🙂
  5. Getting a week off.
  6. Starting internship!!

Things I am NOT looking forward to …..

  1. Missing game 3 because of finals. BOOOOOOO

  3. Starting my next semester the same day I start my internship.

Back to studying. Bye~

Family Cabin Trip & Reno

Totally failed at blogging in the month of March. It’s no longer March but I will still talk about how March ended!

First things first – I got the internship! Whoo!! It’s going to be a 15-16 week internship and it’s going to be awesomeeeeeeeee!

March 27-29th – Family Cabin Trip in Lake Tahoe

Our second annual Tran Clan family trip to Lake Tahoe! Unfortunately there was no snow but it was a fun trip regardless. On Friday, we took off around noon and stopped by Davis for lunch. Dumpling House is my brother’s all time favorite restaurant in Davis and it’s definitely up there on my list as well. I know there are a lot of boba places in Davis but Dumpling House’s milk tea is pretty damn delicious.

We got to South Lake Tahoe around 4pm and did some grocery shopping. Since a bunch of my cousins were busy that weekend we extended invite to close friends aka more drinking and more babies! My cousin Aiden and my uncle’s best friend’s son, Liam. Aiden is 2 months older than Liam but they’re about the same size.

We spent Friday night partying like we were college kids. Beer pong, baseball, rage cage, flip cup, relay, and shots … lots of them. I was drunk by midnight and just clocked out. Apparently they played Taboo – Tran Clan vs Outcasts. I believe the Outcasts won and we never heard the end of it.

The next morning I woke up drunk and it eventually turned into a hangover. It was awful. Yoongi was congested because of allergies and couldn’t sleep so we went on a morning walk at 730am. It felt really nice outside – air was brisk, neighborhood was quiet, and there were lots of trees around. After an hour we went back to the cabin to find everyone awake and breakfast being served. Perfect timing if you ask me. In the afternoon we went on a “hike” to a nearby lake. It was more of a walk than it was a hike. We had to pick something that was baby friendly.

It was a nice view and we just hung out for a little bit. Aiden kept trying to break free from our grasps and walk into the water but his mom said no. Apparently he really loves the water and beaches. So instead he climbed on this tree stump and sat there for a good … minute.

Since Aiden wanted to touch the water but couldn’t go into the water my brother decided to do this.

2015-03-28 12.24.30 2015-03-28 12.25.15

It worked – he was satisfied with it. Then we headed back to the cabin. Most of us took naps while the older ones went to the casinos at Stateline. Next thing we knew, it was dinner time! Grilled chicken wings and tri-tip. I love the idea of BBQ’s but hate the idea of planning, preparing, and grilling. After dinner was round 2 of drinking. My poor liver. We had a lot of Tran Clan vs Outcasts competition with drinking games and we got beat multiple times. It was so sad. We didn’t suck but they were so good. For example – not hitting the first flip for flip cup is enough to lose. There was so much shit talking and so many shots taken. T_T.

Sunday was the end of the family trip but it wasn’t the end of the trip for me! Thomas, Yoongi and I headed up to Reno. Yoongi planned a trip to Reno to celebrate her dad, Tony’s, birthday. He took a bus from the bay and met us there. We stayed at the Atlantis (which btw is voted one of Reno’s best hotels) and boy was it amazing. The first night we went to the Oyster Bar. Fresh oysters on half shells and oyster stew! The Oyster stew was good but it was a little too creamy for me.

We spent the rest of the night gambling. No luck this time. So sad. The next day we had massages at the Spa. If you book an appointment with them you get access to the spa from opening to closing. I spent my whole afternoon and well into the evening there (2pm-730pm). The facility was clean, the atmosphere was relaxing, the people there were beyond friendly, and the showers were awesome. I had a Swedish Massage to start my stay there and it felt so good. Swedish massages are aimed to relax the body and to increase the level of oxygen in the blood, improving circulation and easing tension. After that I went to the Brine Inhalation Therapy Room (a cool, dark room with cool mist) and took a nap. I also visited the Aqua Spa Lounge (with cold, warm, and hot pools), the Laconium Relaxation Lounge (dry room but not sauna dry), the steam room, and the dry sauna. After spending a whole day there I ended the day with a shower. They provide you with scrubs that you can use to exfoliate your body to get rid of dead skin – my skin is baby soft now! Their showers are equipped with 5 different shower heads for a full body clean – traditional shower head, top down (my fav), upper body, lower body, and a hand held one.  Then we had dinner and spend the rest of our stay there gambling. Again – no luck. LOL. We left Tuesday afternoon!

Came home to my fresh out the shop baby! After being car-less for almost a month it feels so good to have my car back!

Turn your favorite quote into a graphic.

I had a hard time picking a favorite quote so I chose one from the book I’m reading.

QUOTE1Seeing how the first two months of the year has already flown by, I thought this was relevant. Happy March!

It has been a very long time since I last used photoshop and boy has it advanced into something complicated. This simple thing took me almost 2 hours to create and of course I had to add a lil’ somethin’ somethin’ into it. The background picture was taken while we were in Korea last November!

Mardi Gras at Town Hall

Mardi Gras aka Fat Tuesday! For those of you who do not know what Mardi Gras is – it’s the day before Ash Wednesday (beginning of lent) where you drink and eat as much as you please! I had no idea what it was until my brother explained it to me. Okay back to the story. Every year Yoongi’s dad, Tony, gets a set of 6 tickets to Mardi Gras at Town Hall! Town Hall is a restaurant in SF on the corner of Howard and Fremont ($$$ on Yelp). Tickets go for $80 pre-sale and $95 at the door but since Tony had extra tickets .. you guessed it! We got in for free! Free.99 is the best .99 out there. The tickets included bottomless Louisiana style hurricanes (mixed drink – rum, lime, orange juice, passion fruit juice. Super delicious), Abita beer, Leblon Caipirinhas (mixed drink – rum, lime, and sugar. They were generous with the rum),  all you can eat Southern specialties – oysters, gumbo, jambalaya, ribs, shrimp, fried chicken to name a few. Just thinking back on the food is making my mouth water. I was so excited about the food that I forgot to take pictures! Shame on me, I know. On top of that since I was around middle-aged white folks I figured it wasn’t appropriate for me to snap away pictures in the middle of a crowded restaurant. Mika did get a picture of the oyster, clam and shrimp bar though.

Doesn’t it look glorious? You have to take my word for it when I say the food is delicious. The ribs were just made to perfection and the seafood Ă©touffĂ©e was phenomenal. Yoongi kept raving about the biscuits on our way there and man was she right. They were served with this red pepper jelly that was the perfect balance between sweet and spicy. Definitely one of those things you have to try for yourself to understand. I mean can you just imagine the amount of food consumed in one night? I had 1 serving of everything, 7 oysters (that’s like 6 too many), countless number of biscuits, too many jalapeno cornbread (OMG), and 4 drinks. Good thing I wore a loose dress! They also had face painting, Samba dancers, and a live band! It was seriously a party. Here are some pictures~

Mika’s face paint! I didn’t realize it was pink until I saw this picture … it looked red in person!

We also got some matching masks!

2015-02-17 19.22.43

Yoongi didn’t need another mask because the lady painted one right on her face but she got one anyway. 🙂

A night without a selfie wouldn’t be right! We have decided that our selfies always turn out better than pictures other people take of us. Maybe we just need someone to each us how to position our bodies.

2015-02-17 20.42.47 2015-02-17 20.44.08

My brother and Yoongi have been trying to get their friends to come to this event for years with little success but this year Kenneth joined! Needless to say, all us first-timers enjoyed ourselves and we had a belly to prove it.

2015-02-17 20.45.35

This is probably the best picture my brother has ever taken while smiling. He is THE worst when it comes to pictures. Can’t smile on-demand at all.

2015-02-17 20.45.40 2015-02-17 20.45.45

Of course we need our fair share of silly pictures. Or at least I do?

Group-ish picture to end the night!

The ladies were wearing Mardi Gras colors so of course we did not pass up this photo opportunity!

Mama Tran wanted pictures of us cause she thought we looked crazy with our faces painted.

It’s Valentine’s Day. What or who do you love?

I love my family, friends, and s.o.! I can end here right? Ha just kidding. 🙂

What I love about my family.

  • Spontaneity – I remember one day (well before I was 21) my dad told me to get in the car and he took me to Napa. It’s not like he could have gone wine tasting (again, I wasn’t 21 and drunk driving is a no no) but it was such a nice day and he just felt like going there. This reminds me – I should take him wine tasting next month! I think he would really enjoy that.
  • Silliness – A regular day in the Tran house is chaotic. Every person that comes home (minus my mom) will run up the stairs yelling. There’s no reason to it we just feel like doing it. Sometimes my brother and I will play darts and the winner will do a silly dance just to rub it in. I will have the yoga ball in my hand and my brother will chest bump me. One time I flew and fell on my ass haha. All in all – a lot of yelling, screaming, dancing and judgmental looks.
  • Comfort and familiarity – I used to think it’s a given to be comfortable at home but I learned that is not always the case. There were a few years in college when I did not feel comfortable in my own apartment and that was hell. I will never take that comfort for granted ever again.
  • The list can go on but I’ll move onto friends instead.

What I love about my friends.

  • Reliability – people may not always be there but at least I know they can be. I can probably text someone and receive a reply shortly.
  • Openness – we can talk about errythang. Who else am I suppose to share my thoughts with?
  • Flexibility – I like not having to meet with friends all the time and I like being able to meet them all the time if I want. If you can’t make it this time then I’ll see you next time.
  • This list can probably go on forever too. Next!

What I love about my s.o.

  • Heart of gold – seriously though. Where else can you find a more genuine person?
  • Comfort – I get to be small spoon all I want. LOL
  • Balance – We found a way to be together without losing ourselves in the process.
  • If I write anymore here I won’t have anything left to write on the card I just bought!

Blog Ideas!

Lets spice this blog up a bit!

I always have trouble thinking of topics to write about and will only blog when something happens. That’s fun and all but don’t you want to read about my opinion on random things? (I hope you just thought to yourself “yes” or at least a “maybe”.) Anyway – the story goes a little something like this .. I went online, did a simple Google search and found this website.

Monthly Blog Post Ideas

I’m going to try to blog at least twice a month (starting off slow). I’m open to suggestions/requests! For the month of February, I narrowed it down to 4. Help me pick 2!

  1. It’s Valentine’s Day. What or who do you love?
  2. Write a letter to your younger self.
  3. Create a list of 10 fun facts about yourself.
  4. Host a guest post on your blog.

P.S. I know only like 4 of you read this so … Hi guys! 🙂
